E3: Wii U

Umm...I know this news seems like ages ago now, but yesterday Nintendo announced their successor to the Wii, the Wii U. I know… this isn't a very creative name at all. But what it lacks in the name, it makes up for with endless possibilities. This little sucker has a 6.2 inch touch screen, gyroscope, microphone, speakers, a front facing camera and Nintendo has finally cried uncle and put all the usual buttons that you would find on an Xbox or PlayStation controller. Oh yeah, and it's in HD as well.

It seems to me that Nintendo's recent slide down the popularity pole and the small but impactful financial drop has finally made them realize that casual gamers only casually play games. Just the addition of this controller is Nintendo sending a message to the hardcore gamers that they miss them and they need those players back to insure a steady income. But this controller will also keep those casual gamers because the simplicity of it all and that it is still Wii compatible as well as the balance board and the original Wii controllers.

They teased a few titles that will be on the Wii U. With names like Assassin's Creed, Darksiders II at launch, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Tekken, Ninja Gaiden III, and Batman Arkham City! WOW! What a complete 360 (no pun intended) from the last few years when Nintendo pushed their dumb little first party published kiddy games. It is a very warm feeling to see that Nintendo isn't afraid to get blood on their hands again!
